[Gatineau, QC] — Philanthropie Outaouais is proud to announce that community organizations in the area will be able to benefit from financial aid supporting the COVID-19 response in our communities. Thanks to the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) Philanthropie Outaouais will distribute just over $300,000 over the coming months to organizations aiding vulnerable communities affected by the pandemic.
“The last few years have been difficult in Outaouais and this pandemic only adds to the catastrophes our region has endured,” said Marie-Eve Bertrand, vice-president of Philanthropie Outaouais’ founding committee. “The organizations across our communities have acted and continue to act as true pillars, and we want to help them as they face the consequences of this pandemic.”
Thanks to the ECSF, Philanthropie Outaouais will be able to help a number of organizations, who have until October 30, 2020 to submit an application for funding through the Community Foundations of Canada website. The funding can be used for a number of things, including to meet staffing and resource needs, to purchase assistance and more.
“This pandemic has spared no one, but it has more severely impacted the most vulnerable people in our region,” explained Bertrand. “Whether it be food banks, mental health programs or any other service, Philanthropie Outaouais would like to highlight the essential contributions made by these organizations and their volunteers. This funding will help to solidify the services offered to our vulnerable communities and we’re proud to be able to contribute in a concrete manner.”
The Emergency Community Support Fun was first announced by Prime Minister Trudeau in April. It is part of a broad series of emergency response measures implemented by the Government of Canada. The first cycle of funding through the ECSF ran from May 19 to July 27, 2020 and allowed the Outaouais chapter of Community Foundations of Canada to distribute $55,550 to three organizations. For this second cycle of funding, a portion of the funds distributed through the ECSF was given to the Community Foundations of Canada, who then turned to its members, including Philanthropie Outaouais.
“We are proud to have the support of Community Foundations of Canada and by extension, the Government of Canada,” said Bertrand. “We are here today because of the initiative taken by our community members, and now we’re able to expand the impact we have in Outaouais.”
